Former Concord, CA resident “Kiki” Ferguson died peacefully, attended by family, at San Ramon Valley Hospital on September 19, 2022, at 96 years old. Kiki was born in Pittsburg, CA to George and Georgia Demetrakopoulos, both originally from Arcadia, Greece. Loving mother of three surviving children: Pamela Ferguson, Donald Ferguson, and Margaret Ketzenberg (& husband Bill Ketzenberg). Pre-deceased by son Douglas Ferguson in 2014. She was proud grandmother to Ben Ferguson (& wife Rashmi Tunuguntla), Daniel Ferguson, and Sylvia Kidder (& husband Sam) and great-grandmother to adored baby Avalon Kidder. Kiki attended the College of Arts and Crafts in Berkeley, CA and graduated in 1950 with a BA from San Francisco State University, marrying Ben H Ferguson of Arizona in 1950. After briefly teaching pre-school children in Berkeley, she devoted herself to her growing family. They moved to Walnut Creek, CA and finally settled in 1968 in Concord, CA.
As a mom she did it all: Cub Scout/Boy Scout mom, dedicated Rainbow Girl board member for ten years, and staunch supporter of her husband Ben in his civil engineering career and Masonic Lodge vocation. Above all, she fostered her children’s education, and shaped them as active community and civic participants. Her artistic gifts in every genre, from oil painting to fabrics design to floral arrangement-splendor graced every corner of her home, and she excelled as a hostess, gardener, seamstress, and above all as a mom, grand-mom, and great-grand-mom.
She had a passion for driving near and far, even up to age 95. Mom’s favorite trip was to Malaysia, to attend son Don’s wedding. She then developed her expertise in Asian-themed art, décor, and fashion, and glowed with style and verve in every gathering. She lost beloved husband Ben in 1996 and carried her sorrow for son Doug’s death with courage. She loved life and lived (and drove) actively and independently until her sudden health crisis in 2021. Her family is grateful beyond words for the expert and sensitive care in her final year at Danville Post-Acute Care and Nursing Facility. Her last wish was fulfilled; she was able to watch the entire 8-hour televised funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, passing away peacefully just a few hours later. Dignified, loving, devoted -- a mom for the ages!
