Obituary

Rosa Murline Buchanan Cole Bond
March 20, 1930 to January 6, 2023

Martinez, Ca

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of Rosa Murline, who passed into the arms of her heavenly father on January 6, 2023 at home.  Murline was born on March 20, 1930 in Beedeville, Arkansas.  She was the third child born to Charles and Margaret Buchanan.

Murline moved with her parents to California when she was twelve years old.  They lived in Richmond for a time and then settled in Martinez.  She attended Alhambra High School earning a letter “A” for her athletic sweater.  She had many happy memories of friends and activities while attending Alhambra High.  She graduated in 1949.  After high school she enrolled in Delores Premier Beauty College in Oakland, Ca.  She completed a nine month course and passed her state exam in San Francisco in July of 1950.  Shortly after graduating from Beauty College Murline married Arthur Wayne Cole who she met through mutual friends at the skating rink.  They built two homes in Martinez and raised three children.  Meanwhile Murline started her career as a beautician working at Lasells Beauty Salon for Derma Berry in November 1953.  She eventually had her own shop in her home where she continued to work until 1980.

In 1980 she married Evert Bond who she had met through church activities.  When she married Evert, Murline acquired 5 more grown children to love. Murline and Evert enjoyed many years of retirement crossing the US in their RV with and visiting friends and family.  They especially enjoyed volunteering their time at Sierra Bible Camp in Lake Amador, CA.  Murline loved God and lived her life as an example to others.  She was a member of the Martinez Church of Christ for 80 yrs.  She taught Sunday school for many years as well as a ladies bible class, most recently until 2018.

Murline was very creative.  She was an accomplished seamstress.  She made clothes for herself, her mother, her children and even became skilled at making men’s suits.  Over the years she made beautiful quilts of which all of her children were blessed to receive.  This includes one gifted to her last great grand- daughter Christmas 2022.  She loved to crochet and knit and has made numerous afghans for family and friends.  She took classes in oil painting and has several beautiful paintings hanging in her home.  She was a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess.  She opened her home for any opportunity to have a gathering, holidays or just game nights.  She enjoyed a home full of love, laughter, family and friends.  We will miss her dearly and will remember her unconditional love, her beautiful welcoming smile and most importantly her love of God.

Murline was predeceased by her mother and father, both of her husbands, Wayne Cole and Evert Bond, her sisters Janice McClain, Reba Winston, her brother Robert “Bob” Buchanan, her step-daughters Marjorie Lewis and Nancy Lewis and step-son James Bond.  She is survived by her brother Charles Buchanan and sister Margie Courtright, her children Melinda Mares (Art), Jeanean Mason (Roger) and Jamie Cole (Christine) and step children Alan Bond and Peggy Hagar.  She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Martinez Church of Christ, 5050 Hiller Lane, Martinez, California on Thursday January 12, 2023 at 12pm.
