Phillip M. Eyring, long time resident of Moraga, passed away March 17, 2023 at John Muir Hospital. Every stranger was a friend he hadn’t yet met. He was honest, smart, likeable and just a very wonderful man.
Phil was born in 1934 in Berkeley to Lavon and Joseph Eyring. He was the oldest of their seven children and was a happy, curious and energetic boy. He grew up in Berkeley and was very active in the Boy Scouts, and even earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Throughout his lifetime he continually supported the BSA. He attended Garfield Junior High and graduated from Berkeley High. After a year at BYU he served an LDS mission to the New England states. He returned and graduated from BYU in business. While in college, he completed the ROTC program and upon graduation joined the Air Force as a chaplain in Denver, Colo. There he met the love of his life, Marna, in 1960. They were married for over 60 years and raised their five active children in the Bay Area. He received an MBA from Cal, earned his CCIM designation and enjoyed a successful 60-year career in commercial real estate. He was a life-long Rotarian and very supportive of his community. He traveled extensively throughout his lifetime and he and Marna loved every one of the over 80 countries they visited together. He was an avid golfer, a continuous adventure seeker, a fan of any sports team (especially BYU, Cal and the Warriors) and a devoted family man.
He is survived by his loving wife Marna, his supportive children Todd (Carol), Andrea (Ken), Karina (Frank), Romney (Ross) and Ashley (Trent) along with his 10 living grandchildren Tanner, Talliya, Dariya, McKenna, Jakob, Kaylene, Carter, Ainsley, Nash and Kaia and his four sisters Lynette, Caroline, Margaret and Jan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Joe and Carl, and his beloved granddaughter Brynne.
A private family interment was performed in Gridley. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service in his honor on Friday, April 14 at 1 p.m. It will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 3776 Via Granada in Moraga. Donations can be made in Phil’s name to Brain Chemistry Labs of Jackson, Wyo., one of his favorite nonprofit research organizations.
