Myrth Ellen Rands Van Vliet of Concord, California passed away on March 6, 2021 after a debilitating infection. She was 86 years old. Myrth was born in Los Angeles on August 30, 1934 to George Ammon Rands and Harriet Elizabeth Cole. She married Claude B. Van Vliet on Sept. 18, 1953.

Myrth obtained both her BA and her teaching credential from California State Hayward. She taught Special Education in the Mount Diablo Unified School District (Ayers Elementary) for 30 years. She loved teaching, cooking, traveling, gardening, reading, and especially being a proud grandmother. Myrth was beloved by many for her love, kindness, and service, nurturing these qualities in her close-knit family.  She and Claude included the LDS Oakland Cambodian branch among their extended family since the early 1990s, finding joy in these relationships as they served with these members of their religious community.

Myrth is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Claude, and her beloved daughter, Karrilee Robison. She is survived by her daughter Kimberlee Staking of Fairfield, California, and sons Jeffrey Claude Van Vliet of Great Falls, Montana and Randy Van Vliet of Concord, California. They join with spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends in mourning her passing. She is also survived by her brother, George Rands.
