April 24, 1929 ~ January 24, 2021 (age 91)


Melbern J. Clark Apr 24, 1929 – Jan 24, 2021 Resident of Concord Mel Clark passed away at the age of 91 on January 24, 2021. He is survived by his four daughters Sheri Clark, Lori Thomas, Janan Clark, and Jill Rawe (George), 11 grandchildren, and 14 great–grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his eternal sweetheart LaRue Boyer Clark, brother Lavere Clark, and son-in-law David Thomas.

Mel was born on April 24, 1929 in American Falls, Idaho to Ernest Melbern Clark and Nettie Wolfenbarger Clark. He attended Idaho State University and Utah State University earning a Masters’ Degree in Physical Education. Mel and LaRue were married on August 27, 1952 in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple. She was the love of his life! They lived in Idaho for the first few years of their marriage before moving to Concord, California in 1961.

He played high school basketball in American Falls, Idaho and won the Idaho State Championship in 1946. Mel also played Varsity basketball for Idaho State. He is a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Korea. He was a member of the Army basketball team while stationed at Camp Roberts, winning the All Army Championship in 1952. Mel taught high school and coached football and basketball in Downey and Soda Springs, Idaho, then Del Valle High School in Walnut Creek, California. He retired from teaching at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, California. He loved teaching, coaching, and mentoring his students and players.

Mel was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many church callings, most notably as Bishop for 7 years in the Clayton Valley First Ward. He loved the Lord and served Him faithfully throughout his life.

He loved family reunions, traveling the world, and spending time with friends and family. His main joy in life came from his family and building relationships with others.

Private family services and burial will be at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, California.
