Martha Zoë Tyler
Resident of Pleasant Hill, California
March 27, 1950 - May 2, 2022
Martha Zoë Tyler passed away on Monday after a long, courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Zoë touched many lives through her strong belief in God, work ethic, friendships, and especially her fabulous smile! Zoë truly believed in following the golden rule of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Zoë was born in Canton, Mississippi, to Edward and Margaret (Shoulders) Hoover. She graduated from Brandon High School and earned a Bachelor of Science at Mississippi State. Zoë also did post-graduate work in Forestry before moving to California.
Zoë enjoyed family vacations in West Virginia and held special memories of French Creek close to her heart. She also had fond memories of her first trip to Disney World when it opened in Florida in 1971. Zoë enjoyed travel and fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling to Australia. She was also a master knitter and crocheter and loved to work on projects for her family. Before her passing, Zoë rehomed her amazing collection of succulents.
Zoë started her career with the U.S. Forest Service in 1978. She was justifiably proud of helping to create one of the Eldorado National Forest botanical areas which are managed to emphasize conservation and recreation-related to plant study and observation. While Zoë's first love was botany, she approached every assignment on Land Adjustment Teams (Eldorado and Regional Office) with determination, professionalism, collegiality, and mission focus. Zoë gave 110% to every project! After retirement in 2009, Zoë volunteered at the Veteran's Hospital in Martinez, California.
Zoë is survived by her sisters Margaret aka Peggy Lindrose of Bristol, Virginia, Pamela Novak (David) of Austin, Texas, niece Sarah Shine of Jacksonville, Florida, and Aunt Betty Shoulders of Colorado, many cousins, and ex-husband Jim Tyler of Sacramento, California. ¨
