Marcella Anne Hatch

Marcella Anne Hatch, 84, passed away peacefully in the presence of her children. She entered eternal rest and is now with her Heavenly Father, her parents Albert and Sadie Reiter, her husband John A. Hatch, and 4 of her 5 siblings.
Marcella grew up on her family’s farm in Canyon, California. She attended a 1 room country school for grades 1-8. She later went on to graduate from Acalanes High School. During her high school years Marcella worked in the Pear fields at The Moraga Company sorting pears to earn extra money. She later attended Oakland Junior College. It was while attending college during social dance classes she met her future husband John A. Hatch of Berkeley, California. Marcella also briefly worked for the stock exchange. Her job was to climb up a ladder and change the stock values on the overhead board as they fluctuated throughout the day.
In June of 1960 Marcella and John were married at the Santa Maria Catholic Church in Orinda, California. They made their home in Pleasant Hill, California. Christ the King Catholic Church became their family parish. Marcella and John had 5 children, and Marcella leaves behind those 5 children, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Marcella was quite the seamstress, making all her young children’s clothing. She and her children modeled the clothing at their grammar school fashion show. Marcella was a Cub Scout den mother for her boys, and also a leader for her daughter’s with the Brownies organization. Marcella shared her love for Canyon with her children, by taking them for nature hikes along the fire trails. Marcella was also a diehard Giants fan and preferred listening to the games on the radio. She was also an avid baker and taught her children how to can fruit and make jam. Marcella was also a very successful business woman. She ran a Day Care Center from her home for many years.
Marcella is survived by: son, James (spouse Alice; grandchildren Jordan and Lauren, spouse Christian; great grandson Jonas); daughter, Kathy (spouse Tony; grandchildren Deleane ,spouse Jorge; great grandchild Ocelotl) and Chris (spouse Pricilla; great grandchildren Emilia and Gabriela); daughter, Susan (spouse Rick; grandchildren Justin and Cheyenne); son, Don (spouse Shawn; grandchildren Ami (great grandchild Vance), and Courtney (great grandchildren Olivia and Gwen); and son, Bill. Marcella is also survived by her brother, Albert, and sister in-law, Mary Jeanne, as well as many other family members.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Monday January 9th, 2023 from 1:00 -5:00 pm at Oak Park Hills Chapel 3111 N Main St, Walnut Creek, CA 94597
Family and friends are also invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Marcella Anne Hatch. It will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 199 Brandon Rd. Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 at 10:30 am on January 10th, 2023. Her burial will follow at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Rd. Lafayette, CA 94549. A light lunch reception will follow the burial, at the Church hall.
