LORETA SUMILANG GECALE
Resident of Vallejo, CA
September 4, 1928 – June 28,2021
Loreta Sumilang Gecale passed away very peacefully on June 28, 2021. She touched many lives with her gentle, giving, and loving spirit.
Loreta was born in Tayabas, Quezon, the coconut province of the Southern Philippines. An orphan at the age of seven, along with her three siblings, Roman, Benilda and Rogelio. They all grew separately from each other, nurtured by their aunts and uncles. Loreta learned the walks of life at a young age, in a very strict, disciplined environment. She was raised knowing that respecting the elders is a virtue, and the cleanliness is next to Godliness.
Growing up, she was noted for her beauty and grace. She had crowned numerous times to attest to that. Her heart was won by Ruperto S. Gecale, Sr., a young lad, an Army Veteran, from Calamba, Laguna, Philippines. Loreta and Ruperto Sr. got married in April of 1946, memorable enough as America had liberated the Philippines from Japaneses Regime.
Loreta was very proud Lawyer’s wife, a homemaker and Successful businesswoman. She was a widow at age 31 and never remarried. With hard work and wit, she raised five children, not without difficulty. Her biggest accomplishment in life was the educational achievements of all her five children. That made her the proudest.
Loreta is survived by her five loving children: Atty. Virginia G. Villaluz of Lucena City, Philippines, Isabelita G. Puruganan and son-in-law, Ernesto S. Puruganan of Walnut Creek CA, Zenaida S. Gecale of Quezon City, Philippines, Maria Teresa S. Gecale and son-in-law, Joel Allian of Pleasant Hill, CA, and Ruperto S. Gecale Jr. and daughter-in-law, Malou Mallari of Union City, CA. She was also blessed with nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Loreta will be missed dearly by her family and by all who knew her.
