Kevin James Dodson
Resident of Pleasant Hill, CA
Kevin J Dodson, born May 1, 1962, lost his battle with Stage 4 cancer, Monday Oct 4, 2021. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Branson, and her three children, Israel Branson, Tatiana Jackson, and Anastasia Branson. Although he never married, and was not their biological father, he was very influential in raising his partner’s (Mary Lesley’s) daughter and three sons: Serena Lesley, Jason Lesley, Ken Lesley and Robert Lesley.
He lived in Pleasant Hill, CA all of his life, but for three years in his 20’s. In grade school, he tested into the advanced classes, making him one of the very few students who were allowed to get out of regular classes in order to attend special, higher-learning classes, and to go on fun, yet educational, field trips.
Kevin was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and he served as Assistant Scout Master. He was also a member of The Wolfeboro Pioneers, a Boy Scout camping honor society based out of Camp Wolfeboro near Arnold, California. That love of camping and outdoor activity never waned. His scouting experience served him well as an adult when he regularly volunteered to help out at Mary’s daughter’s Girl Scout camp. There, he entertained and educated the Scouts’ brothers. He was so popular that the girls got jealous of the projects he taught the boys, and toward the end of camp, they would insist on swapping instructors so they could learn from him.
He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1980, which was the very last graduating class before they closed the school down. It is now Pleasant Hill Middle School. Kevin went on to attend Heald Institute of Technology, where he earned an AA in Electrical Electronics & Communications Engineering. After graduation, he was hired as a Technical Consultant. Eventually, the company he worked for was either merged, split or sold, and then they, too, were either merged, split or sold ... several times over. Throughout his career, he served in the same job with the same or similar title, and with some of the same coworkers, but for a myriad of companies; so, he liked to point out that he was a Technical Consultant for his company for longer than the company had even existed.
Kevin was a fun and funny friend to all who knew him. He was a mentor, a wonderful uncle, and a fantastic son and brother. He enjoyed life, and shared his sense of humor wherever he went. He loved good food, good drink, and good company, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
