It is with heartfelt sadness that we, Manuela Della Santina (daughter), Joseph Della Santina (son-in-law), Narciso Biagi (son) and Rose Biagi (daughter-in-law) announce the passing of our dear mother Iva Biagi on November 8, 2019 from congestive heart failure and lung cancer. She died peacefully surrounded by her immediate family.
Our mom was born in Sorbano Del Vescovo, Lucca, Italy on February 21, 1926 to Gemma and Narciso Ghiselli and was the middle child with Dino and Giovanni her two other siblings. She was happily married to our father Luigi Biagi (November 9, 1947) for 34 years until his death in 1981. We can still remember how he would affectionately call her “Sorban”.
In 1954 our father Luigi immigrated to America to start a better life for his family and our mom, with us as two young children, joined him in 1956. They worked hard in San Francisco to raise their family with much love and it is from them that we have our sound foundation of love for our family and friends.
Our mom loved baking and will forever be remembered for her fantastic Befana cookies, torte and biscotti. She enjoyed working in her yard and always welcomed everyone to her home, where she enjoyed cooking delicious meals. She was a strong, caring woman who was very devoted to her family. A few years after the passing of our dad she moved to Antioch where she and her close friends Aurelia and Lina enjoyed spending time together, shopping and going out to lunch or dinner. She moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in Pleasant Hill when she was close to 90 and lived there until her death.
She is survived by her grandchildren Michael (Heather), Robert (Lisa), Chris and Greg, who she loved dearly, and her great grandchildren Juliana, Vince, Sofia and Matteo, who she adored.
We your family and beloved friends will all miss you terribly mom. You are in our prayers, in our thoughts, and forever in our hearts. May you rest in peace, along side our wonderful dad who you have missed for so many years.
Services will be at Christ the King Catholic Church, 199 Brandon Road, Pleasant Hill, CA on Thursday, 11/14/2019. Visitation from 9-10am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am. Interment will follow the service, and will be at the Italian Cemetery 540 F Street, Colma, CA.
