Gerry was born Gervaise Marie and raised in Illinois along with her sister Joanne and brother Jack, the children of John and Lucille Koch.
She married Ken Fenty in 1948, and they started their family with Jan, the eldest, Susan, Lynn and Brian. Before Brian was born, they left the cold winters of Michigan and moved to California and raised their kids on the sunny West Coast.
As her children got older, Gerry went back to school and got her teaching credentials. She was a happy and successful school teacher to grades 1 & 2 until her retirement.
Gerry lost Ken to cancer in 1989 and was on her own a few years until she met Bert. They married in 1992 and had an adventurous time of travel and valued family gatherings.
Gerry contributed greatly to her community. She rehomed furniture through Contra Costa Interfaith Coalition to people in need. She Volunteered at the Thrift Shop called "Leftovers" for the Contra Costa Crisis Center and distributed, for St Vincent de Paul, food and necessities to less fortunate people at Christ the King.
Gerry lived to be 95 years old and her loving heart and generous nature will be greatly missed by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, her sister and many friends.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church at a later date to be announced.
She will always be in our hearts.
