Fay Royal Baxter passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 after a long and valiant struggle with diabetes. He was a resident of Walnut Creek, California.
Fay was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He graduated from C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia, South Carolina. After graduation, Fay joined the Navy where he served 7 years. Upon his honorable discharge from military service in 1959, he began work in Los Angeles, California as a U.S. postal mail carrier. Fay left L.A. and went on to be employed by the S.F. Municipal System. He first worked as a bus driver and then as a cable car conductor. Fay next found employment with BART. While working for BART, Fay earned an Associate Degree of Science from the City College of San Francisco. He continued to advance professionally, finally retiring in 1998 as a BART Facilities Contract Supervisor and Landscape Designer.
Fay had an insatiate curiosity about everything. He loved world travel, horticulture, good food, music, art, architecture, and politics.
Fay is survived by his sister, Dooley Dixon of New Jersey and her children; his sister, Joyce Dulin and her husband Linford Dulin of Auburn, Georgia and their children; his sister Anna Wade of Carson, Ca.; Anna’s son, Arthur St. Claire; Fay’s brother Antony Baxter of Dupont, Washington, and Fay’s sister-in-law, Mary Baxter of L.A., California. Fay is also survived by a son and grandson and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life for Fay.
