Edward Bernard Wiesick, 100, was born on November 16, 1919, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to John and Anna Wieszczak, the youngest of 6 brothers. He died peacefully on June 19, 2020, in Walnut Creek. After high school, Ed attended college and then enlisted in the Army Air Force in May 1942. He served in Northern Africa, Italy, France and Normandy with the 740th Squadron of B-17 bombers. He was honorably discharged in August 1945, and moved to San Francisco. He lived in the Haight-Ashbury district until the flower children moved there in the 1960’s, when he went to the Bayview District for the next 4 decades.
Ed worked as a gardener for many years at the Naval Station at Hunter’s Point. In retirement, he enjoyed growing flowers, especially beautiful dahlias, collecting and selling old books and records and following his beloved San Francisco Giants.
Ed is survived by his nephew Peter Wiesick (Susan), great niece Karen Meek (Steve), great-nephew Mike Williams, great-great nieces and nephews Sam Meek, Maggie Meek, Jessica Wiesick, Duncan Williams, Rose Poulson and great-great-great nephew Wyatt Williams. He is also survived by dear friend, Karen Stiles.
Interment was in Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. Donations may be made in his name to Hospice East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Avenue, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
