Upon the day of January 26th, Chong Im Moon (Kim) passed away after battling a massive stroke on the left side of her brain and other complications.
Chong was born in Korea and her final resting place will be in California. She came from a family of wealth and left all of it for a chance at love and a new life in America. Byung-ho and Chong-Im met in Korea after the Korean war. Byung was a survivor from North Korea and was able to find refuge in Texas. He joined the US Army and after serving in the States he went back to Korea and Chong. Chong came from a privileged home. Her grandfather, a successful businessman owning a large restaurant and a father who was a professional football (soccer) player and local celebrity. Her love for Byung did not come easy and sacrifices had to be made.
She created a small family with Major Moon Byung-Ho: The first son, Moon Sang-gwa, and the second, Moon Sang-jun. They lived in many different parts of the US but ultimately settled in the California East Bay region. She was a born entrepreneur, as she knew what to invest in. This in turn, enriched her children with many memories and experiences. The epitome of a matriarch, she would not back down to anything that she thought would harm or limit her family in any way. She loved her children and her grandchildren and she treated them as if they were her most precious gifts. This amazing woman managed a home for 3 men and also helped care for her 4 grandchildren. She created a home of comfort with lots of food. Although her family was small, Chong would cook as if there was a battalion stationed at her house.
She was a devout Christian. She went to church every Sunday, praying daily, writing her favorite scripture on whatever she could get her hands on and singing her favorite gospel song. She loved spending time with the congregation, preparing food for Sunday lunch service and volunteering at church events, feeding and caring for the community just as she did for her family.
Her service will be on March 2nd at 2:30 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery (5810 Midway Road Dixon, CA 95620).
