Obituary

Albert Richard Juelis

Resident of Walnut Creek

May 3, 1948 – August 16, 2022

Albert “Richard” Juelis passed away on Tuesday after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his family.

Rich was born in Newark, New Jersey.  He graduated from Roselle Catholic Highschool (where in 1965, he pitched a perfect game). He went on to earn a degree in Chemistry from Fordham University where he played baseball for the Rams.  He received his MBA from Columbia University in NYC.  In his roles as CFO for pharmaceutical and biotech companies, he and his family lived in the US, Puerto Rico, and Ireland.  Rich was a member of the Band of Angels and worked closely with new start-up companies.  He was proud of his Lithuanian heritage and was able to visit there on several occasions.

Rich loved and excelled at many sports. He was an avid golfer, playing courses all over the world including St. Andrews in Scotland and was a member of the Olympic Club in San Francisco.  He loved to ski and took to the slopes at numerous resorts in the US and Europe. Over the years he could be found boogie boarding in the cool waters of the Pacific, warm waters of the Atlantic, or playing baseball with his grandsons. When he wasn’t on the course or slopes, he loved spending time with his family, working in the yard, or volunteering with local organizations.

He is survived by his wife Sue; twin daughters, Michele Kelley (Brian) and Melissa Simpson (Jeff). Rich cherished his 4 grandsons, Luke and Shane Kelley and Ryan and Scott Simpson. He is also survived by his sister Carol Cetroni (Al), brothers Bob Juelis (Esther) and Paul Juelis (Lorraine), all of New Jersey, and many nieces and nephews. Rich was predeceased by his beloved Mother Jeanne Juelis and Father Albert Juelis.

Through his profession, volunteering, and his generous nature, he touched the lives of many.
