Obituary

On April 9, 2019, Raymond Ferraris Sr., of Lafeyette, CA passed away at the age of 88. He was born in Joliet, Illinois and moved with his parents, Louis and Margaret along with his sister Kay, to California in 1938 where his brother Jim and sister Linda were also born. Ray was proud of his military service. He served three years with distinction as a Corporal in the army in Korea. The training he received in building aircraft landing strips helped steer him to his eventual career in construction equipment. Filled with Italo-American charm, Ray maneuvered through his life with entrepreneurial spirit.

He spoke with fondness  of working the long gone flower fields of Millbrae. He labored his way from construction work to many ventures including opening a men’s clothing store, owning and operating several popular bars and eventually settled on working with heavy machinery. He was a hard worker with a gift for finance. With the help of his son Ray, he built his company Power Systems from the ground up into a thriving business.

He is survived by his beloved life partner of 24 years, Bonnie Sommer and her family, his sons; Ray Jr. and wife Nina, Ken and husband Matt, grand children Tony and Amy, four great grand children, sister Linda, niece Joanne and husband Ed and many other loving nieces, nephews and cousins including Virginia (and husband Steve) who shared many long conversations about their shared love of cats.

Ray’s life long love of animals developed into a passion for feline rescue. In memory of Ray, donations can be made to the East Bay chapter of the SPCA.
