Dorantes, Maria, age 93 formerly of Walnut Creek, passed early morning Wednesday of January 10, 2018 at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek.
Maria was born in Guanajuato Mexico on July 11, 1924 to Felipe and Dominga Mendoza. She finished elementary school and moved to Mexico City with her sister to start a Grocery Business. After starting the business she met and married her husband Lauro Dorantes in 1950 and had 3 children. In efforts for a better life, her husband would travel back and forth to America. While he was away she started and built an apartment business, which is still up and running today. In 1962 she started traveling to America and then permanently moved in 1971 with all her children to Oakland, CA where her husband and herself purchased their home. Upon moving she became a homemaker who took care of all her children and their spouses when they all 1st married, all her 7 grandchildren and continued on to care for her great grandchildren.
Maria better know as Aue, short for Abuelita, was not only a devoted wife and matriarch of the family, she was a savvy businesswoman who was strong willed and had the most profound memory. Her sharp memory made her a great accountant, right down to the penny. She cooked the best home cooked meals and wrangled all her 7 grandchildren at the same time. She’ll be known for her strength, beauty and her beautiful green eyes, and the love and besitos (kisses) she gave.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Juan and Teresita Dorantes, her daughters and son in laws, Esther and Enrique Dorantes, and Margarita and Carlos Alcocer, her grandchildren; Enrique Dorantes Jr., Laura Dorantes, Desiree Dorantes, Carlos Alcocer Jr., Bobby Alcocer, and Alexandra Martinez, her grandchildren’s spouses; Vilma Dorantes, Diana Alcocer, Tyneal Alcocer, Paul Martinez, her great-grandchildren; Esmeralda Alcocer, Melissa Dorantes, Vanessa Dorantes, Noah Martinez, Ezra Alcocer, Emilana Alcocer, Titus Alcocer, and Eve Marie Martinez.
Memorial and Rosary Service will be held 6:00pm to 9:00pm Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Oak Park Hills Chapel in Walnut Creek. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00am Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Walnut Creek and Burial Service to follow immediately after at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.
