Elizabeth Ann Wentzell Parker
July 12, 1930 - December 12, 2017
Resident of Concord
Elizabeth Ann Wentzell Parker, was a person filled with a joy for life and was known for her kindness, generosity and endless energy. She lived a life of service to others, enjoying almost 50 years as a registered nurse and faithfully servicing in her church. Betty, as her friends called her, began her life in Woodbury, New Jersey, on July 12th, 1930, and grew up in the nearby town of Pitman, NJ. She was the youngest of 3 daughters, born to James LeRoy Wentzell and Vera Naomi Hurff.
Betty started nurses training in Philadelphia, PA, at the Hahnemann Hospital at the age of 17 and graduated by 19. She was a hard worker with a great attitude and was able to find work wherever she went.
In December of 1952, she went to a Holiday dance at the YMCA in Philly and met the love of her life, Richard J. Parker. Within a year they were married (Dec 12, 1953) and after 5 years they had 3 energetic children, Richard Joseph Parker Jr, Diane Naomi Parker Eldredge and James Michael Parker. They lived in Pennsauken, NJ until 1961, then moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, then in 1964, put down roots in Concord, California and there they stayed.
Betty had a successful career as an RN at Kaiser for 35 years. She loved her work and loved helping others. Betty was a great example of Christ like love and service to others. As a mother she was kind, patient and generous and always willing to help anyone in need.
Betty grew up a Methodist, but in 1967, her family of 5, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This was a good decision for Betty & RJ because as they raised their family, none of their children strayed from the path of following in their parents footsteps, they learned to love God, family and Country and to always try to do what’s right.
Elizabeth Parker passed away on the evening of Dec 12th, 2017, the day of her wedding anniversary. RJ, her husband had passed away 14 months earlier and it was truly a mercy from God that he let them be together again on that special day. She was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 15th,2017. Viewing at 10:30am, Service at 11:30am.
