Cora was born in Alma, Arkansas. She was the 10th of 11 Children of the late James Pleasant Smith and Susanna Jane Pierce Smith. Wife of the late Arthur Chester Flud and the beloved Mother to her dearly departed children Willis Flud, Leota Rooney and Burlon Flud and to her surving son Harold Flud of Middleton, ID. And daughter Kathleen Wilkinson of Winters, CA.

She worked in the shipyards during World War II, like “Rosie the Riveter”, and later at the County Hospital in Martinez. She was a strong willed, independent woman who worked hard and loved her family. Known to all as either Momma, Granny or Aunt Cora, She loved going fishing, Smith Family Reunions, and Reno, where lady luck would seem to smile on her. She loved her home the most and enjoyed making quilts, crocheting, reading and playing games with family and friends, as well as telling stories of her life to a captive audience. Cora touched the lives of many people in her ninety-nine-plus years on this earth with her caring heart, honesty, generosity and pioneer spirit. She maintained her trademark sense of strength all the way to the end. She will be forever loved and greatly missed.
