Ruth Bailey Steele Thompson

January 17, 1920 – August 24, 2017

Moraga, CA

Ruth was the youngest of four daughters born in 1920 to Frank and Ruth Steele in Utica, New York.  She married Arthur Stewart Thompson in 1939, and they moved to Tucson, AZ in 1941. Art enrolled in premed at the University of Arizona and they raised their two children, Lee (George) and Barbara.  Ruth and Art moved to Richmond, VA when the children were grown, and then retired to Lakeport in Northern California to be near their son.  Arthur passed away in 2002. Ruth has been living at Aegis Assisted Living in Moraga for the past 6 years where she has made many friends.

Ruth is survived by her son, “George” Lee Thompson (Sandra) of Lafayette, CA and daughter Barbara Thompson of San Diego.  She is also survived by her two grandsons; Michael Allen Thompson and David Stewart Thompson of Sacramento, three great granddaughters Rebecca Lee, Rachel Anne and Dave’s daughter Grace Olivia all of Sacramento.  Ruth has one older sister, Virginia, age 99, still living in White Plains, New York.

Ruth loved to sew beautiful clothes and her favorite pastime was to shop for fabric. She always had a book going and a crossword puzzle at her side.  She loved her glass of wine at night and enjoyed participating in family events. Living in Clear Lake at Robin Hill Estates, she loved looking out on the Lake and treasured being with all her neighbors and friends.

We thank all of her friends and staff at Aegis for taking such good care of her while she was there.  She loved to play black jack with Manny as her dealer.  We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses and staff at Manor Care in Walnut Creek for their always kind help. Thank you all.

Services will be private. Please use the "Guest Book" on this site to leave a condolence message.
