Manes Vernon SobolikJanuary 20, 1922 ~ March 18, 2017 (age 95)
Resident of Walnut Creek. Manes (Whitey) Sobolik, 95, passed peacefully on March 18, 2017, at Harmony Care Home in Antioch, CA, surrounded by his family.
Manes, son of Joseph and Pauline Maresh – Sobolik, was born on January 20, 1922, on the family farm in Pisek, ND. He spent his youth there and graduated from Pisek H.S. Whitey joined the Navy at 18 and served during WWII. He returned home (1944), met up with Bernice Best, and headed to CA, where they joined the Peace Corp and served in Guam for a year. They returned to S.F., were married, and settled down. In 1961, they moved to Walnut Creek. Whitey worked for Local 38 for forty years in HVAC. Bernice passed away in 1987.
Whitey remarried in 1989 to Lois Morsch and they became ‘Snowbirds’ traveling between Moorhead, MN, and Apache Junction, AZ. Lois passed away in 2013. Whitey moved to Brentwood, CA, where he lived out the remainder of his years.
He joins Bernice Sobolik, Lois Morsch-Sobolik, his parents, and siblings in Heaven. Whitey is survived by his three sons: Gary (Lisa), Daryl (Gayle), Glenn (Mary); sister, Bridgett Studney; two step-daughters, Karen (Walter), Janet (Anthony); two step-sons, Gary (Cindy), Randy (Kristi); nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; twelve step-grandchildren; and six step-great-granddaughters.
Whitey’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday July 29th, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Oak Park Hills Chapel, 3111 N Main St, Walnut Creek,. (925) 934-6500
