Ina Nell Kenelly Hatfield Ovre
May 8, 1927-March 2, 2017
Nell passed away peacefully the morning of March 2, just two months shy of her 90th birthday. A resident of Vacaville, CA she was predeceased by her husband Leslie H. Ovre, her parents Willis and Erma Kenelly and three brothers. She is survived by her loving daughter, Christye Hatfield of Dixon, CA and her devoted sister Mary K. Ward of Spartanburg, SC. She is also survived by two step daughters, Leslie Holman and Lynn Reid, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Nell was born on Mother’s Day 1927 in Bogalusa, Louisiana, a town and a way of life that she forever held close to her heart. After graduating from high school at the end of WW II, she came to California to visit and made it her home for the rest of her life. She resided in Walnut Creek, working at Phair’s and Black’s Market in Orinda for over thirty years. She was a friendly and outgoing people person, who endeared herself to all who knew her.
In retirement, she reunited with the love of her life Leslie Ovre and they married in 1991, eventually settling in Healdsburg, CA for 10 years. In 2003 they moved to Vacaville to be closer to her daughter. Les passed away in 2004. In her remaining years Nell enjoyed traveling, community activities and spending time with her family.
Our lasting gratitude to Sharel Thisius, Bobbie Burns and Jennifer Royer who loved and cared for her over the last several years.
Funeral services will be at Oak Park Hills Chapel in Walnut Creek on Saturday, March 4 at 12:30 P M., with the Rev. Cathy Morris from the Dixon United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow at Oakmont Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions can be made to Citizens Who Care for the Elderly, 409 Lincoln Ave, Woodland, CA 95695 or to a charity of your choice. In remembrance of Nell, please visit a senior living facility and spend some time with a lonely resident.
