Elmer V. "Lefty" Krause, 86, of Pleasant Hill passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at his home in Pleasant Hill. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The family later moved to Detroit, Michigan where he grew up. He was confirmed as an adult at Messiah Lutheran Church. He attended Wayne State University. Elmer was drafted into the Army in 1951 and was stationed on the front lines in the Korean War serving with the 5th Regimental Combat Team. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended Michigan State University. In 1955 he married Lenore Loeber, and they moved to California. They were happily married for 62 years. Elmer completed his college education at the University of California, Berkeley with a major in Criminal Justice. Upon graduation, he worked for the Oakland Police Dept. for 35 years and retired in 1993 as a Sergeant. Shortly after retirement, he joined the Contra Costa County Grand Jury for a year of service. Elmer and Lenore attended Christ Lutheran Church in Martinez and served as youth counselors; Elmer also played on the church league basketball, baseball, and bocce ball teams. Elmer is survived by his wife Lenore, son Ray, son Tom and daughter-in-law Beau, son Don, and grandson Nickolas. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Paula. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2317 Buena Vista Ave., Walnut Creek, CA. Donations may be made to Concordia Theological Seminary, 6600 N.
